The 2018 Oscars nominations for Best Director included DUNKIRK by Christopher Nolan, GET OUT by Jordan Peele, LADY BIRD by Greta Gerwig, PHANTOM THREAD by Paul Thomas Anderson, and of course the winner, THE SHAPE OF WATER by Guillermo Del Torro. It is no surprise that Guillermo along with his compatriots Alfonso Cuarón and Alenjandro Iñárritu have won multiple Oscars among themselves in large part due to the rich history of Mexican cinema which has had the full support of IMCINE (the Mexican Institute of Cinema). No doubt if American Latinos were afforded similar support in the United States there would be even more diversity in Hollywood and more Oscar winners.
